Crown placement is usually done after a Root Canal Treatment , Bridge procedures, or when dealing with extensive cavities that cannot be restored.

Precautionary steps to be observed include:

  1. Refrain from biting hard on the prepared tooth until the crown placement
  2. Ensure thorough maintenance of the tooth through regular brushing and rinsing
  3. Get the crown fixed immediately after delivery, as the prepared tooth may experience slight upward movement , making it challenging to place the crown

While a crown mimics a natural tooth, it has inherent limitations. It’s important to understand that an artificial tooth cannot be directly compared to a natural one.

Crown cementation refers to affixing the crown to the prepared tooth using an adhesive material.

The crown can be fixed either temporarily or permanently.

Temporary cementation of the crown is necessary during the healing phase of the gums or if modifications to the crown are required.

In any case, the following instructions should be adhered to after cementation.

  1. Refrain from biting down on hard objects such as bones, sugarcane, Pista Shells, walnuts etc, as there is an increased risk of fracturing the crown and the natural tooth beneath it.
  2. Steer clear of sticky foods, caramelized toffees, Chikki, chocolates, as the negative pressure they exert can dislodge the crown
  3. Prioritize regular brushing, rinsing and overall oral maintenance to ensure the longevity of the crowned tooth
  4. It is advisable to floss between the teeth and the crowned tooth to maintain optimal oral hygiene.
  5. As an alternative to floss ,consider using a waterpik, as it can assist in effectively maintaining oral hygiene.
